At Lasnetski Gihon Law, we understand that facing criminal charges can be one of the most challenging experiences in a person’s life. A criminal prosecution can have serious consequences for an individual’s freedom, livelihood, reputation, and future. Our experienced criminal defense attorneys in Jacksonville and Orlando are committed to protecting our clients’ rights and providing knowledgeable, effective representation throughout every stage of the criminal justice process.
Our criminal defense practice is led by experienced trial attorneys Jeremy Lasnetski and Hope Johnson, who bring extensive courtroom experience and valuable perspectives to the defense of individuals accused of crimes throughout Northeast and Central Florida.
In Jacksonville, Jeremy draws on more than 20 years of criminal law experience, including his previous service as a prosecutor with the State Attorney’s Office, where he served as a Division Chief and member of the Homicide Prosecution Team. Having handled more than 70 criminal trials in state and federal courts, Jeremy brings extensive knowledge of criminal prosecution and defense to his representation of clients.
In Orlando, Hope brings substantial criminal trial experience from her more than four years as an Assistant Public Defender in Florida’s Ninth Judicial Circuit. Having represented clients in hundreds of misdemeanor and felony cases, including securing trial victories in matters ranging from DUI and theft to drug possession and felony murder, Hope draws on her extensive experience evaluating evidence, litigating substantive motions, and developing effective criminal defense strategies.
Our Florida criminal defense lawyers understand that effective criminal defense extends far beyond the courtroom. From the earliest stages of an investigation through pretrial proceedings, negotiations, and trial, we carefully evaluate the evidence, examine the legality of law enforcement conduct, and identify potential defenses. This includes challenging unlawfully obtained evidence through motions to suppress, contesting legally insufficient charges through motions to dismiss, negotiating with prosecutors, and pursuing alternatives to criminal convictions when appropriate.
Our criminal defense practice encompasses a broad range of misdemeanor and felony offenses, including DUI and criminal traffic violations, drug offenses, theft, domestic violence, firearms offenses, violent crimes, and serious felony charges. We also recognize that criminal charges can have consequences extending beyond the criminal justice system. With experience in both criminal defense and immigration law, our firm is particularly equipped to evaluate cases involving noncitizens who may face immigration consequences as a result of criminal proceedings.
Under Florida law, the consequences of a criminal conviction can be substantial, ranging from fines and probation to lengthy periods of incarceration. The potential penalties depend on numerous factors, including the nature and severity of the offense, the defendant’s prior criminal history, and the applicability of statutory sentencing enhancements or mandatory minimum sentences. Florida’s Criminal Punishment Code establishes a framework for sentencing individuals convicted of most felony offenses, accounting for factors such as the severity of the primary offense, additional offenses, and prior criminal history. Navigating these provisions requires careful consideration of both the charges and the circumstances of each case. Experienced criminal defense counsel can play a critical role in evaluating potential sentencing exposure, challenging the prosecution’s evidence, and identifying opportunities to minimize or avoid criminal penalties.
The consequences of a criminal conviction can also extend well beyond the penalties imposed by a court. Depending on the offense, a conviction may affect an individual’s employment opportunities, professional licenses, driving privileges, firearm rights, housing options, and immigration status. Certain criminal convictions can result in deportation or other serious immigration consequences for noncitizens, while others may create lasting barriers to employment or professional advancement. Importantly, even a negotiated plea that avoids incarceration—or results in a withholding of adjudication under Florida law—may carry significant collateral consequences. For these reasons, an effective criminal defense strategy requires more than evaluating the immediate risks of prosecution; it requires understanding how the resolution of a criminal case may affect a client’s rights, opportunities, and future.
We recognize that no two criminal cases are alike. Our attorneys work closely with clients to understand the circumstances surrounding their charges, explain their legal rights and options, and develop individualized defense strategies informed by the facts and applicable law. Whether seeking dismissal of charges, negotiating a favorable resolution, or advocating before a judge or jury, our goal is to protect our clients’ interests and pursue the best possible outcome under the circumstances.
At Lasnetski Gihon Law, we are committed to combining extensive courtroom experience with accessible, personalized legal representation.
